The registration is easier, but multi-visas had 90-day limit introduced.
The Russian visa registration can be done now over the post by any Russian person, the presence of the foreigner is not necessary. The cost is about 5 EUR. See more information at

Multiple 6-month and 12-month visas have a limitation now, which will hinder those who need to stay over long periods in Russia: you can only stay now max 90 days during 180-day period. This only applies to visas issued after 18 October 2007. More info at
